Duiwe is in n uitstekende gesonde kondisie.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION...

There was an article in the February 2008 edition of the SA & World Pigeon News about the Medpet Loft in Jeffreys Bay.  After seven months we can report back about the advantages and disadvantages of such a Loft and the consequent savings for pigeon fanciers.

The number of pigeon fanciers in this country is reducing because of the high costs in the sport, and the National Organisation SANPO still has no marketing strategy in place to improve the situation.  The issue of costs must, then, be one of the reasons why there are so many enquiries regarding the success of the Loft from all over the country.

There are more and more pigeon fanciers that simply do not have the money or time to take part full time in the pigeon sport, but who still want to be involved in the pleasure of it.  In a loft like the Medpet Lofts in J-Bay, everyone can have an involvement at a minimal cost in comparison with having a full time Loft of your own.  You still have the pleasure of the achievements of your pigeons in the Loft, and your pigeons are being tested against other pigeons which all compete under the same circumstances.

The good news is that we are now going to pilot a project in conjunction with MEDPET whereby we are going to launch more such Lofts across the country.

The advantages and disadvantages of such a Loft:

Advantages:
It gives pigeon fanciers hope again and something to look forward to.
Pigeons sort one another out, because all pigeons have an equal chance and only the better ones come through and achieve with the standard of the competition being high and harsh.
Pigeon fanciers can save up to 60% of the normal costs in the Sport.
Pigeons still compete on Club and Union level.
Every pigeon fancier still keeps his own team of pigeons and can leave them over to the following year.
This gives retired pigeon fanciers, and people who cannot spend so much time with the pigeons, a chance to compete and to test their pigeons against others.

Disadvantages:
There is a reasonable loss of pigeons at the beginning of the season because the birds come from different parts of the country.
There is also a big difference between the pigeon lover relationship and just caretaker relationship.
It is also a big problem to accommodate everyone in the Loft, unless we enlarge the Loft (there is high demand).

The report from the Loft for the past seven months is as follows:
Pigeons are being treated with Medpet products and Vitamin additives.
The condition of pigeons is excellent.
Races for places take place regularly in the Club.
The best result was 4 places in the Club from only 9 pigeons basketed.
Feeding also plays a big part in the achievements of pigeons and this can be seen from the results where the pigeons achieve.

The conclusion is that, while we can work on some improvements, the Loft is a big success; it is an incentive for pigeon fanciers to stay in the Sport in future.

If any pigeon fancier in the country is interested in starting such a Loft, they can call or email us any time and we will assist where we can.
